About
Every December, La Font de la Figuera celebrates its Moros, Cristianos and Contrabandistas Festivities, declared of Autonomous Interest since 2026. These major festivals, dating back to 1739, honor Saint Barbara and bring the entire community together in a display of history, fireworks, and emotion. The Juan de Juanes Theatre hosts the Presentation of Cargos where Captaincies and Flags are proclaimed for each side, starting the countdown. The Entry is the most crowded event with over 970 festeros and 50 comparsas marching through the historic center in formal attire, bands of music, and carriages. Embassies recite centuries-old verses that narrate the historical dispute over the castle, culminating in a powder battle using trebuchets that fills the town with noise. Finally, the descent of Saint Barbara from her Hermitage in solemn procession unites all three sides in an emotional and devotional moment.
